This artwork is derived from a photograph taken March-April, 2010 during a tour of South and Central America. This is in central Cuenca, the third largest city in Ecuador. This female is one of the colorful indigenous Quechuan Indians that comprise about 25% of the population.
Cuenca is rated as the number one retirement place in the world, and rightfully so. We will be retiring there starting November 1, 2011.
I do hope you enjoy my work.

Al I love this .. fabulous and thought provoking capture. Now, I have to ask .. what makes Cuenca the number one retirement place in the world??
Al Bourassa replied:
Cuenca is about 8,000 feet up in the Andes, close to the equator, a lovely colonial city of 500,000 that has so many things going for it: temperatures 70 degrees year-round, days 12 hours long, safety, friendly people, clean water, organic foods, clean air, beauty, good health care, and last but not least, affordability. Everything is 1/4 the cost of here, including housing. Residency is not difficult and at age 65 you get tremendous discounts on most things. We loved it the second we drove in.
Karol Livote
Wonderful image!
Al Bourassa replied:
Many of the indigenous peoples do not like to be photographed so one must be very careful.
