Description
The iridescence of the feathers of the hummingbird cannot be accurately captured by a camera to do the colours justice.
This artwork is derived from a photograph taken Jan 22/15 in Cuenca, Ecuador, South America from my bedroom office window. I spend hours watching and waiting for these fascinating creatures called a Sparkling Violetear, no fatter than my thumb, to fly up and entertain me. I had been moving the feeder closer and closer until it was inside the room about 15” and they continued to come into the house for their meal.

Then this little guy, who I have now named Tom Thumb, graduated to eating from my hand. See http://youtu.be/hQEkObLN9Ag
Watch how they drink nectar http://www.wired.com/2011/05/hummingbird-tongue-drinking/
