Description
These are two statues that are very prominent in Quito. One celebrates the Liberator Simon Bolivar who is revered throughout the Americas for throwing out the Spanish invaders. The other is an unusual aluminum statue of a winged Virgin Mary conquering a very large snake. The statue of Mary, which overlooks the majority of the city, is on a large round hill resembling a small loaf of bread, hence it is called El Panecillo.
This digitally altered artwork is derived from a photograph taken April 6/10 in the capital of Ecuador, Quito, during our exploratory tour of South and Central America.
