Description
A pietà is a subject in Christian art depicting the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus, most often found in sculpture. As such, it is a particular form of the Lamentation of Christ, a scene from the Passion of Christ found in cycles of the Life of Christ.
The Basilica of Notre-Dame-du-Cap is a basilica in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada. It is the Canada's national shrine to the Blessed Virgin Mary and attracts thousands of pilgrims each year.
In 1964, the present basilica was inaugurated, and the sanctuary officially became a minor basilica. The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate continue to operate the shrine.
This digitally altered artwork is derived from a photograph taken Sept 18, 2007 in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec during our exploratory tour of New England, and parts of the east coast of the USA and Canada on the Norwegian Dawn out of New York City.
