If you ever get to visit the city of Manizales, be sure that your guide takes you to the Barrio of Chipre where the views and the scenery are phenomenal.
One of Manizales’ most beloved and iconic monuments is the spectacular Monument to the Colonists (Monumento a los Colonizadores). This giant bronze sculpture is a tribute to the hardy first settlers of the region and an aesthetically-beautiful piece of work as well as an important reminder of the pioneering history of the region.
The monument depicts and lists the 19th-century settlers who established the city. Using copper wire, local artist/sculptor Guillermo Vallejo created the statues to commemorate 150 years of Manizales. The location of the statues also offers panoramic views over the city vista and surrounding areas.
Note that this is only a portion of this monstrous sculpture.
