Description
Shortly after our arrival in Plaza de San Francisco we are approached by a street entrepreneur named Juan Paulo (John Paul) who lived
in Toronto, Canada for 3 years to learn English and who is now offering to guide us around the area for $12 per hour. I mistakenly assumed he was going to drive us, but that was not the case, and more walking was involved with this history lesson. We visited inside a Quito museum and library which was once a Jesuit seminary. From the rooftop I caught his fabulous shot of the flag being lowered from the Carondelet Palace, President Correa’s residence.
Over the roof you can see the spires of the Basilica del Voto Nacional.
San Francisco de Quito, most often called Quito, is the capital and the second most populous city of Ecuador.
The central square of Quito is located about 25 km (15 miles) south of the equator.
Quito, along with Krakow, were the first Cultural Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO in 1978.
This digitally altered artwork is derived from a photograph taken April 5, 2010 in the capital, Quito, Ecuador, during our exploratory tour of parts of Central America.
