Description
El Puente Roto (The Broken Bridge), over the Tomebamba in Cuenca began contruction in 1849 and was destroyed by a terrible flood on 3 April 1950.
Instead of rebuilding, or indeed demolishing, the remains of the bridge, it was left as it was and today is a popular place for young locals to hang out. You can walk across the remains of the bridge which is now more like a platform overlooking the river and indeed you can still pass under the remains of the bridge which has a road still running through one of its arches.
This artwork is derived from a photograph taken Nov 12/15 in Cuenca, Ecuador, South America nestled in the Andes Mountains.
