While doing a personally guided tour of Cali we spotted this gigantic picturesque stadium (Pascual Guerrero) where there was obviously an event happening. We went to the stadium and were shocked to be granted free access to the 2015 World IAAF Under-18 Championships.
We watched for a while and saw this Women's 5000M RaceWalk and many instances of true athletic sportsmanship as the exhausted walkers crossed the finish line. This is one of those instances.
The event was won by Zhenxia Ma of China, (time 22:41:08) with Russian and Ethiopian walkers coming in second and third respectively.
This is one of the benefits of travel, to stumble across world-class happenings where you least expect it.
This digitally altered artwork is derived from a photograph taken July 18/15 in Cali, Ecuador, South America nestled in the Valle de Cauca in the Andes Mountains.
