Description
One thing that is very apparent in Ecuador is the commitment to maintain order when there are anti-government demonstrations. There is usually an oversized police presence complete with armoured police and horses, military, and tear gas. Thankfully the demonstrators are normally law-abiding and do not react unless the police overreact. Actually I have to commend the police and military for their amazing restraint when things begin to get tense. Only once have I seen the tear gas actually used when the crowd rushed police barricades.
On this particular day, milk producers were protesting Government policies and things got temporarily ugly when a single horse-mounted policeman tried to stop the demonstrators from blocking a highway and was unsuccessful. The blockage lasted about 45 minutes and then the crowd dipersed peacefully.
This digitally altered artwork is derived from a photograph taken Jan 19/16 in Tarqui, Ecuador, South America nestled in the Andes Mountains.
