Description
So what are the differences between an alligator and a crocodile??
Alligators have wider, U-shaped snouts, while crocodile front ends are more pointed and V-shaped.
When their snouts are shut, crocodiles look like they're flashing a toothy grin, as the fourth tooth on each side of the lower jaw sticks up over the upper lip. For alligators, the upper jaw is wider than the lower one, so when they close their mouths, all their teeth are hidden.
Crocodiles tend to live in saltwater habitats, while alligators hang out in freshwater marshes and lakes.
This digitally altered artwork is derived from a photograph taken Dec 10/15 at the Amaru Zoo in Cuenca, Ecuador, South America nestled in the Andes Mountains. This mountaintop zoo is very different in its setting and the animals seem to have a lot of room to roam and are well cared for.
